Applicants who entered the Diversity Visa 2024 green card lottery (DV-2024) may check the status of their application online beginning Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 12:00 (EDT). The DV-2024 application period began on October 5, 2022, and ended on November 8, 2022. For verifying your status, only confirmation information for items submitted within this time period is valid.
All DV-2024 applicants must check their status online, and they will not get a letter or e-mail from the United States government. The Diversity Visa Entry Status Check will be available exclusively through the Department of State’s secure web portal. Entrants can verify the status of their submission using the E-DV website at https://dvprogram.state.gov/ until September 30, 2024. Entrants must utilize their own confirmation page information at the time of their entry to determine whether or not their Diversity Visa Lottery entry was selected. Entrants must provide their last name, birth year, and confirmation number from the receipt.
The Department of State warns the public that there has been a significant rise in the number of fraudulent emails and letters addressed to potential Diversity Visa (DV) program (Visa Lottery) applicants. The crooks behind these phony emails and letters pose as representatives of the United States government in an attempt to extort money from DV applicants.
Even if you are not chosen on May 6, 2023, please save your confirmation number until at least September 30, 2024. The Department of State may pick additional DV-2024 entries on or after October 1, 2023.
Entrants who have misplaced their confirmation number can retrieve it by entering further identifying information on the official website and selecting the “Forgot Confirmation Number” link.
Selected applicants must check their credentials, apply for an immigrant visa and alien registration, compile supporting documentation, and attend a consular interview. The requirements of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which determine the amount of diversity immigrant visas available each year, govern visa number distributions. Selected applicants will be booked for interviews only if and when a visa number becomes available. Before being interviewed, each candidate must pay the $330 non-refundable Diversity Visa Lottery cost. More information, including how to prepare for the consulate interview, is available at https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/diversity-visa/if-you-are-selected.html.
The next application period for the DV Lottery is likely to occur between October and November of this year. Official dates, rules, and nations eligible should be released by late September. Visit the official US State Department website at https://dvprogram.state.gov/ for additional information. In the early fall, you can also contact our office for further information and assistance in completing another application. You should be informed that the DV lottery application is free and that you do not need to pay anyone to participate.
